Day 5 Adelaide
- Long
Point (Coorong National Park)
·
Slow start
– because we can!
·
Packed and
away by 11
·
Called
into a nearby Maccas to send Blog – No service – Boo!
·
Headed
east through Adelaide suburbia if you could call Adelaide that. It seems that
most of the houses are nice with plenty that are exceptional.
·
Onto the
main Highway but not for too long as we turned off at the Mt Lofty Summit
Cleland Conservation Park – What a view of Adelaide!
·
Wound
through pretty small towns to lunch (3pm) in the park at Goolwa. We’d chosen to
follow Nev (the Navman’s) “most economical” directions to get to Goolwa and
while it is very dry the drive was very nice. Unfortunately the road to our
destination WAS NOT open so…….
·
We had a
beer at the Steam Exchange Brewery and
·
Took the
longer route through Meningie to our campsite at Long Point in the Coorong
National Park
·
Set up the
tent beside the Coorong Lagoon with Long Point surrounded by pelicans,
seagulls, coots, ducks, swans (black) terns, cormorants and an egret.
·
We were
treated to a sunset that was
·
STUNNING!!!!!!!
Day 6 - Long
Point (Coorong National Park)
·
Awake
early (around 4) because of the warm night and the quack, quack, quack,
quack!!!!!!!!!!!!
·
Back to
sleep until around 6 when the first of the fishing boats that were moored in
the bay adjacent to the tent headed out for a day’s fishing
·
Sunrise
was as spectacular as was the sunset
·
Lazy
breakfast
·
Followed
by an even lazier day
·
Were lucky
to get some Coorong Mullet from the fishermen for lunch and for tea.
·
Most of
the day was spent looking at pelicans (who don’t appear to eat) and ducks (who
never stop). Book reading and
puzzles were the other entertainment. Bliss.
·
Met and
shared the (one) picnic table with Jess who is spending her third year away
from the winter of Cornwall.
·
Later
night although it was reading (headlamps) not the sunset!
Day 7- Long
Point (Coorong National Park) - Adelaide
·
Packed the
tent and the car in between light showers which barely wet the ground
·
Went to
start the car - Nothing!!!!!
I guess we had too much draining the battery! Luckily we were jump started by a
guy who was camping nearby.
·
Through Meringie
where we bought bread and a lovely fruit bun (with the car running all the
time) and headed to Parnka Point for a better view of the where the 2 Coorong lagoons
meet. This is an area with abundant birdlife and I wondered how much the
birdlovers at the Gravenhurst Seniors Exercise group would be amazed by the
variety.
·
Back into
Meningie for fuel. Fortunately running the cart for 2 hours had bought the
charge in the battery back and it restarted. A lesson learned!
·
Returned
over the same ferry we’d used to get to the Coorong but where we waited only
minutes for the eastern bound ferry those few days earlier there were enough
cars and trucks to fill at least 5 full ferries waiting their turn. Oh well it
didn’t stop the Suzuki.
·
Next stop
Langhorne Creek. Now what is Langhorne Creek famous for?
·
WINE!!!!
·
We stopped
and tasted at only one small winery. Cleggerts. Tasted 6 and could have bought
at least one of each. But we came away with Golden White Cabernet Sauvignon,
(2002) and Chaliston (new variety) (2003) and Cabernet Sauvignon (with 4% White
Cab Sav). Again all we tasted were lovely!
·
To Country
Comfort, South Terrace. Home for the next 4 nights.
·
Called by
Suzuki Adelaide for a small problem with Sadie (our car) but they weren’t able
to check the problem until Tuesday.
